Spain Coach Vicente Del Bosque has paid tribute to Xabi Alonso after the midfielder announced his retirement from international football.
Alonso, who is also expected to leave Real Madrid for Bayern Munich in the very near future, called it a day with La Roja after 114 caps.
Marca report that Del Bosque was the Coach for 67 of Alonso’s appearances and praised Alonso for leading by example when wearing Spain colours.
“He leaves with a great legacy together with other teammates,” Del Bosque said.
“He has been a great professional.
“The coaching staff and I have great esteem for him. I can only say his behaviour has been impeccable.”
