Alonso ‘hours away from Bayern’

Xabi Alonso is today expected to complete a move away from Real Madrid to link up with Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich.

AS reports that the transfer could be confirmed within hours and that Alonso has reached an agreement with the German club.

Madrid would receive a €10m fee for the midfielder, who in January extended his contract with Los Blancos until 2016.

Alonso resisted offers to return to the Premier League and an approach from Juventus to stay in Madrid but has grown unhappy at Santiago Bernabeu, the report continues.

It’s understand that he yesterday met with President Florentino Perez and Jose Angel Sanchez to inform the club he wanted to leave and ask that he be allowed to go to Munich.

The presence of Toni Kroos is thought to have pushed Alonso to the exit, among other events at the club.

Madrid aren’t expected to stand in Alonso’s way and will save the salary, said to be €4m a year, for the experienced midfielder.

Alonso, who turns 33 in November, yesterday announced he was stepping down from international football.
