Douglas ‘ready for Barca’

New Barcelona signing Douglas insists he is ready to make the step up to La Liga after leaving Sao Paulo for Camp Nou.

Barcelona last night confirmed the capture of the 26-year-old for a fee that could reach €5.5m if all conditions for bonuses are met.

Douglas has spoken to Mundo Deportivo about his new club and revealed his self-confidence that he can rise to the challenge.

“I’m very happy. I’m going to a big club, where every player wants to play,” he said.

“I am very happy and I hope to give back and not disappointed. Yes, I’m ready. I worked in Sao Paulo, one of the biggest teams in Brazil and fighting for titles.

“Barcelona is no different, one of the biggest in the world, used to being a champion and I’m ready.

“I have a good head and I know the difficulties, but I hope to help in the best way possible to win trophies.”

Douglas joins a number of Brazilian players in the Barca squad but admitted he hasn’t spoken to Dani Alves, Adriano or Neymar as he doesn’t know them.

“I didn’t even try. We are people who play on other teams and didn’t come across each other, so I didn’t get a chance to talk to them,” he continued.

“They are good players, representing our national team. The first thing I’m thinking is to do my job because the Coach has to choose and then things will come naturally.

“There are no words to be in a team like Barcelona, where everyone wants to play and in which there are great players.

“Now I want to learn from them and work with them to make a good team and win trophies.”
