Rakitic ‘hungry for trophies’

Ivan Rakitic has outlined his ambitions for his time at Barcelona after getting off to a winning start against Elche.

Rakitic, who swapped Sevilla for Barca this summer, created a goal for teenage debutant Munir El Haddadi in the 3-0 victory.

Marca reports Rakitic as telling a newspaper in Croatia that he always wanted to play for a club of Barca’s stature, and now he wants to win trophies too, having claimed the Europa League as Sevilla captain.

“As a kid I made a target, to be a player for one of the biggest clubs in the world,” he revealed.

“I’m happy just to be at Barca, for me the biggest club in the world.

“Now I expect to improve, to fight for the team and I’m hungry for trophies.

“With respect to the Europa League, what interests me is the League title and the Champions League.

“Here, with the world’s best players, in Europe’s largest stadium, anything is possible.”
