Simeone banned for eight games

Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone has been given an eight-game touchline ban for incidents in the Supercopa de Espana second leg.

Marca reports that Cholo has been sanctioned by the Competitions Committee after he was sent to the stands during his side’s 1-0 win over Madrid.

Simeone has been given a two-game ban for the expulsion, four game for tapping an official on the back of the head, one for sarcastically applauding the decision and one for remaining in the stand and not returning to the locker room as he was supposed to.

He has 10 days in which to lodge an appeal.

All of the games for which Simeone is banned will be in the League and he will also miss tonight’s season-opener against Rayo Vallecano as a holdover from last season.

Simeone has to serve a one-game ban for his disciplinary record from the previous campaign in which Atletico finished as title winners.

Cristiano Ronaldo meanwhile has escaped punishment for an altercation in the same match with Diego Godin, having been booked by the referee at the time, AS add.
