Simeone ready for punishment

Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone accepts he will be punished for his actions in the Supercopa de Espana second leg.

Simeone was sent to the stands during the 1-0 win over Real Madrid and is banned from the touchline for tonight’s League opener against Rayo Vallecano as a legacy of misconduct from last season.

He told a Press conference that he is waiting for the authorities to make a decision on his status but suggested he has been harshly treated in the past.

“When one is wrong you pay for it and in that sense I’m waiting for what I have to pay,” Marca reports the Coach as saying.

“It’s a dead issue, what happened the other day. And to reiterate and talk again about the same thing isn’t good.

“The people who decide have to make the decision that is fair and hopefully as small as possible for the good of the team.

“Of the five yellows last year, two were with Real Madrid, two with Barcelona and one wit Malaga. And I was sent off in the Champions League.

“It looks like something strange because it’s always with them.”

He added that the alleged incident between Cristiano Ronaldo and Diego Godin – the Madrid forward accused of striking the Atletico defender – isn’t something he saw.

“I didn’t see the images during the match. On TV you see very little,” Simeone insisted.

Simeone’s assistant, German Burgos, will be on the touchline in Simeone’s place. The boss stressed he had full faith in Mono.

“We will try to find a way to communicate but German has the ability, confidence and gives me peace of mind.

“We see football the same way, so there’s no problem.”

Simeone declined to reveal much about his team to play Rayo, saying only that Miguel Angel Moya would be in goal.
