Atleti fail in Alvarez approach

Atletico Madrid have been told to pay €12m to sign Ricky Alvarez from Inter after failing in a loan approach.

Mundo Deportivo reports that the champions made Alvarez their plan B behind Alessio Cerci, who appears bound to leave Torino for Milan.

Milan entered the frame after Liverpool agreed to sign Mario Balotelli, giving the Rossoneri the funds to step in for Cerci.

Italian outlet Tuttosport say Cerci is heading for San Siro, causing Atleti to make a move for Alvarez.

But their loan offer was turned down, with Inter only interested in a permanent deal for €12m.

Inter President Erick Thohir is said to believe Atletico will pay the fee requested once Cerci moves to Milan.
