‘Fazio very unlikely to play’

Sevilla boss Unai Emery says it is highly unlikely that Federico Fazio will feature in his side’s La Liga opener with Valencia.

The central defender is believed to be one the verge of a move to Tottenham, something his Coach all but admitted during his pre-match Press conference today.

“Fazio trained this morning, but he has very few chances, if not no chance at all of being with us tomorrow,” Emery told the media ahead of tomorrow’s League curtain raiser.

“He was our captain. His departure pleases us in the sense that it shows the evolution and growth that Sevilla has undergone. I wish him luck.”

Other high profile exits from Andalusia this summer include Ivan Rakitic to Barcelona and Alberto Moreno to Liverpool, something Emery believes is down to the club’s recent success.

“The departures are a side effect of winning the Europa League and doing things well. The showcase of the European Super Cup against Real Madrid was also key for making the clubs interested in Fazio make bids for him.”
