Correa to Atletico in January

Angel Correa will in January complete his move to Atletico Madrid after the transfer was delayed due to his heart problem.

Correa was to leave San Lorenzo for the champions but a tumour on his heart was discovered during his medical, postponing the deal until the problem was resolved.

AS report Correa’s surgery was successful and he is now recovering, with Atletico maintaining their interest in the 18-year-old despite the signing of Mario Mandzukic and Raul Jimenez.

But Correa won’t be incorporated until the January transfer window as Atletico won’t have space in their squad for him.

The club’s three non-EU slots are now filled by Jimenez, Jose Gimenez and Miranda. The latter is though expected to take Spanish citizenship in the near future.

Atletico want to keep defender Gimenez to fill the gap that will be left by Toby Alderweireld, should he get his desired move away from Vicente Calderon.

Correa was present at the Supercopa de Espana first leg this week and he will in a few months be an Atletico player, with the club still convinced of his potential.
