Murcia case back in court

Murcia and the LFP are due back in court today for the latest round in the club’s bid to have their relegation overturned.

The LFP demoted Murcia from the Segunda, only for Murcia to take the matter to a Madrid court, which ruled in their favour and ordered their reinstatement, AS report.

But the LFP argue that the relegation, imposed for financial reasons, is valid and to return Murcia to the second tier would mean having a 23-team League, which violates LFP statutes and requires the RFEF to agree.

AS add that the AFE, the players’ union, has proposed accepting a 23-team League for one season only, and returning to 22 teams for next year.

The AFE added in a statement that if a 23-team League isn’t possible, they would accept Murcia’s relegation if compensation is paid to the club’s players to take into account the changes in their contract for playing in Segunda B, as opposed to the Segunda.

Judge Javier Marin Vaquer is due to hear the case at 11am local time.
