‘Suarez wanted Barca’

Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has paid tribute to Luis Suarez’s desire to play for the club.

The Uruguayan signed for the Catalan giants from Liverpool this summer despite reportedly having other more lucrative offers.

Speaking to the media today, the Camp Nou official also praised the assets that Suarez would offer Barca’s star-studded line up when he finally returns from his four-month biting ban.

“He is a striker who can play as the main forward, off the front or on one of the flanks,” Zubizarreta said.

“He is a forward who scored goals and links the play and a competitive player who gives us options in attack.

“He wanted to be a Barca player, he had a strong desire and now it is a reality. He had very important offers, if he is here today it is because of his interest in playing here.

“He is used to pressure and the demands. We are delighted to have him here and to have a player with his characteristics. He completes what we have as a team very well.”
