LFP discussing Murcia case

The LFP are today holding a series of meetings to discuss the situation with Murcia amid fears the uncertainty could run on.

Murcia were relegated from the Segunda for financial reasons but appealed and were returned to the second tier by a judge.

As it stands the Segunda has 23 teams and the League’s start date has been pushed back to allow the parties to come to a solution.

The LFP said in a statement last week that even proceeding with 23 teams is complicated as a new calendar and fixture list has to be drawn up and the statutes of the League changed, with the agreement of the RFEF.

Marca claims that legally the case could run for months or even years if it remained in the court room.

The LFP executive committee will meet twice today, as well as holding meetings with the board of the Segunda, although Murcia are not sending a representative to the assembly.

There are also meetings scheduled with both the board of the RFEF and the federations executive committee.

It’s claimed that if Murcia are not readmitted to the Segunda as per the court order then the club will return to court to ask that LFP President Javier Tebas be held in contempt for disobeying a court order.

Either Murcia or Mirandes, who took Murcia’s place in the Segunda, stands to miss out as the LFP wish to avoid having a 23-team League.
