‘Navas sale put Levante on the map’

Levante President Quico Catalan believes the transfer of Keylor Navas to Real Madrid has made the world notice Les Granotes.

Navas made a €10m move to Santiago Bernabeu after impressing at the World Cup for Costa Rica, with Catalan telling AS that the deal is good for the club both financially and otherwise.

“It was what was in his clause and we’re talking about one of the best goalkeepers in the world,” Catalan said.

“Financially, [it’s very good] for Levante. It allows us to pay off a large debt we inherited from the past. In the last five years we have fulfilled beyond our obligations…but the transfer of Navas gives us much more socially.

“For an institution like Levante that is invaluable. That Levante have transferred a player to Madrid who spent three years here, it means Keylor has developed at Levante.

“It’s an operation that puts Levante on the map for other players.”

Catalan also welcomed Jose Luis Mendilibar to the club after Joaquin Caparros left at the end of the season.

“He is a Coach who has adapted perfectly to the philosophy of the club. He has the profile of a Levante Coach,” Catalan added.

“We believe the technical secretary had a great year last year and Mendilibar is giving orders to a group that has given us a lot of joy.

“It hasn’t been a summer of making reinforcements like in other years. There is a group that is known perfectly.”
