The Uruguayan's ban for biting Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup has been upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, however, La Blaugrana were given something of a boost with the news that Suarez can train with his new club. CAS’ decision can be appealed to the Swiss Federal Tribunal but the chances of overturning the decision at this stage appear slim.

It is Suarez's third suspension for biting an opposition player, and his fourth hefty ban if you include the punishment for racially abusing Patrice Evra of Manchester United. Regardless of the drama that the striker brings to the game, it has also not prevented his career progressing to the point he now plays for one of the biggest teams in the world, and has just moved to the north east of Spain for one of the largest transfer fees in the history of football. This, alone, is indicative of the high level at which he plays.

The decision that the CAS announced on Thursday afternoon might not sit well with many fans of Barcelona, but what it will do is prove beneficial for the club in the long-term. Not only does Suarez have plenty of time to reflect on his actions at the World Cup in the hope that it won't happen again, but it also tells Barca's newest signing that it really is Luis Suarez versus the world.

Suarez needs to be the enemy. He needs to feel hard done by. He is driven by boos and is buoyed by the feeling of injustice. Regardless of what Suarez's current view of the incident with Giorgio Chiellini, the fact of the matter is he feels he has been wronged, and when that happens, he tends to take his frustration out on opposition defences and anyone who stands in his way.

Aside from the fact that Suarez is the kind of footballer we have never seen before, his personality is almost unique in football. The former Liverpool man came back from his last ban after biting Branislav Ivanovic and went on to score 31 goals in 33 League games, while winning every individual prize available.

He went on to single-handedly eliminate England from the World Cup with a real assassin's touch that meant he had finally been vindicated in front of English eyes. Another lengthy spell on the sidelines means another chance to prove people wrong once he returns.

Expect a similar response from the Catalans' latest signing after his most recent misdemeanour. There will be an abundance of anger, frustration and energy simmering and ready to explode upon his return. While Barcela fans may feel cheated out of their new star man for the first three months of the season, they shouldn't expect him to waste too much time in re-establishing himself in the role of misunderstood genius that he plays so well.
