Simeone hails Atletico DNA

Diego Simeone believes Atletico Madrid’s strength is the structure given by the familiar faces in the champions’ squad.

Cholo was interviewed on La Sexta, Marca reports, and discussed the club’s attacking options after the signing of Raul Jimenez.

Simeone also added that he is not concerned by the departure of the likes of Thibaut Courtois, Filipe Luis and Diego Costa, who are all now at Chelsea.

Instead, Simeone argued that the club has retained the backbone of the squad that has been successful in recent seasons.

“Miranda, Diego Godin, Gabi, Koke, Mario Suarez, Tiago, Arda Turan is the strongest part of the team,” he insisted.

“It’s true that players are gone and it’s clear that in this situation there is a change. Replacements must start with calmness.

“The people who went chose to go and it’s not to say it would be better if they stayed. If they chose to leave you have to respect that because they gave everything.

“Today the strength for this team is the structure, with Miranda, Gabi, Mario, Koke, Raul Garcia…because the team has a DNA, which they are, and in staying we can continue to build.”
