Ramos welcomes Madrid signings

Sergio Ramos believes Real Madrid have done good business in the summer transfer market with the signings of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez.

The pair made their Madrid debuts in the European Super Cup win over Sevilla last night, a Cristiano Ronaldo brace sealing the victory, and Ramos added that lifting a trophy was the ideal way to start the season.

“It’s a good way to start, with a new trophy. When there’s a trophy you always work harder to get to your best moment and meet the challenge,” AS reports the defender as saying.

“It was a hotly contested final but we used our chances to deserve the title.

“Besides, I am personally very happy about keeping a clean sheet. The team was very solid and deserved to win.

“Madrid are always well reinforced and have signed with the head and intelligence and we have added the quality players that were necessary.”

Former Sevilla man Ramos also reflected on the importance of the European Super Cup, both for the club and on a personal level.

“In football, the institution and the history of Madrid, you carry all that pressure,” he admitted.

“I dedicate this victory to my family, my wife and my son, all Madridistas and Antonio Puerta.”
