Emery: Sevilla lacked aggression

Sevilla Coach Unai Emery has bemoaned his side’s European Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid, saying his side ‘lacked aggression.’

Marca reports Emery as saying Sevilla went into the game in Cardiff with the intention of beating Madrid but came up against a very good opponent.

“We came to the final with one intention, to play to our strengths, but we knew we were against a powerful opponent,” Emery said.

“Clearly, finals are played to be won, but you have to have options and that’s what we have done.

“It’s true we lacked a little clarity and aggression on their goal and that’s something we have to continue polishing and working.”

Emery also wished Alberto Moreno well upon his imminent move to Liverpool and insisted the club would survive without the left-back, as they have in the past when other important players have moved on.

“Sevilla had important players that have left and we have continued to have success,” he went on.

“We will not relent in efforts to reinvent ourselves with new players who can lead us to a path of growth.”
