Fazio named Sevilla captain

Federico Fazio is the new captain of Sevilla, replacing Ivan Rakitic, who this summer moved to Barcelona.

AS report Fazio has been appointed in part due to his longevity, having moved to Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in January 2007.

Fazio was originally signed to bolster the club’s B team but was soon moved to the first string and is the only player left from Sevilla’s last European Super Cup appearance, the defeat against Milan in 2007.

The Argentine wasn’t named against the Rossoneri but was contracted to the club then, and is also the only player currently with Sevilla to have played alongside the late Antonio Puerta.

AS add that Fazio has worked hard to overcome his critics and become an important part of the Sevilla side, and one of the team’s leaders even without the armband, hence the decision to name him as Rakitic’s successor.
