Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone could push Juanfran into midfield at times this season after signing two right-backs.
AS reports the option is being mulled over in training following the arrivals of Cristian Ansaldi, on loan from Zenit St. Petersburg, and Jesus Gamez, signed from Malaga.
Atletico have a friendly today against Wolfsburg and Juanfran could be used in midfield there with either Ansaldi or Gamez behind him.
Arda Turan is unavailable for the Supercopa against Real Madrid, the midfielder suspended as a legacy of last year’s fixture and that is part of Simeone’s reasons for looking at other ideas.
Simeone has fielded different formations all summer, including trying a midfield three, but there is concern over changing the defence any more than he has to.
Guilherme Siqueira has come in to replace Filipe Luis but until he is as defensively sound as the rest of the back four, Simeone may opt to keep Juanfran at right-back.
But AS add that Gamez has impressed his new teammates and could be fielded at right-back against Los Blancos, with Juanfran in midfield.
