‘Madrid confident after La Decima’

Carlo Ancelotti believes winning the Champions League has given new confidence to Real Madrid.

Los Blancos clinched their 10th European Cup and first since 2002 at the end of last season with a 4-1 win over domestic champions Atletico Madrid.

Ancelotti has given an interview to UEFA in advance of the European Super Cup against Sevilla on Tuesday, with his comments reported by Mundo Deportivo.

“It was important to me to win [the Champions League] because during the season we had the idea to win La Decima in our heads,” the Coach revealed.

“I wanted it. The club wanted it. Making history with La Decima is definitely the biggest win. Everyone aspired to it. It wasn’t an individual success.”

Ancelotti added that winning consecutive trophies is the aim, but one he knows will prove highly difficult.

“No team has defended the title in history [in the Champions League era]. I know it will be very difficult. Our starting point is that the team is more confident.

“We have more confidence now because of recent successes. I think it will give us something extra for the next edition of the Champions League.”
