Liga clubs to learn EL & CL opponents

Athletic Bilbao, Villarreal and Real Sociedad will today learn who they face in Champions League and Europa League play-offs.

Villarreal and La Real have been seeded for the Europa League draw but Athletic face the prospect of playing one of Arsenal, Porto, Zenit St. Petersburg, Bayer Leverkusen or Napoli in a two-legged tie to reach the Champions League group stage.

The Champions League draw is the first to be made today, at 12pm local time from UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

Villarreal will face one of FK Sarajevo, Apollon Limsassol, PEC Zolle, FC Astana or Debreceni.

La Real can be paired with either Stjarnan, FC Midtjylland, HNK Riejka, Grasshoppers, Zorya Luhansk or FC Krasnodar.

The Europa League draw sees the play-off teams split into five groups of 10 teams, and one group of 12, which is La Real’s group.

The seeded teams are labelled 1-5 and the unseeded teams 6-10 [1-6 and 7-12 for La Real’s group].

When one pairing is drawn, it applies for all groups, so for example teams 1 and 6 could be drawn to play each other in each group of 10 teams.

La Real’s group will be drawn separately to account for the extra two teams involved, according to UEFA’s official website.
