Casillas: La Decima eased the anxiety

Iker Casillas has revealed winning the Champions League with Real Madrid eased the pressure and anxiety he was feeling.

Madrid claimed La Decima at the end of last season, beating Liga champions Atletico Madrid in the final, and Casillas has said the desire to win the trophy increased year on year since Los Blancos’ last success in 2002.

But it was becoming a millstone around the club’s neck, Casillas believed, while a number of his teammates have also given their thoughts on the occasion.

“We have taken off a weight that had dragged since 2002,” AS reports Casillas as saying.

“I hope there is more to come now we don’t have that anxiety.

“Winning La Decima meant we took away the pressure of not being champions of Europe since 2002.”
