Xavi retires from international football

Xavi Hernandez’s international career has come to an end after he announced his decision to retire.

The 34-year-old played 133 times for Spain, scoring 13 times – becoming perhaps the greatest midfielder to ever play for La Roja.

The Barcelona playmaker won Euro 2008, World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012, being voted into the teams of the tournament on all three occasions.

But this morning, after a disastrous World Cup in Brazil this summer, the veteran has revealed that he will no longer pull on that famous red shirt.

“I have decided to retire from international football. I'm grateful for all those years. It has been a fantastic time,” he briefly told reporters.
