‘Hard to replace Musacchio’

Villarreal Coach Marcelino expects Mateo Musacchio to leave the club this summer and feels he’ll be hard to replace.

The Argentine has been linked with moves away from El Madrigal and AS reports the Coach as saying he expects a transfer to go through.

Marcelino says the club would then look for a replacement but doesn’t expect that process to be easy.

“The quality and level of the player makes it difficult to find a substitute,” he added.

“It’s always more difficult to adapt a defender than a forward or midfielder to the team.

“And at this point it’s not easy to find defenders.

“For better or worse we want a solution soon. The sooner we know the more time we have to solve the problem and do what is best for the team.

“Mateo is a very important player to Villarreal and very difficult to cover. He plays in a position that’s not easy to strengthen.

“It’s a situation in which there are three parties, the player, a buyer and the club in the middle and I’ve said many times, if the club sells a player it’s important the conditions are right.”

Marcelino also said that if Musacchio goes, Villarreal will look to sign two centre-backs, and not one.
