Sergio Busquets will be Barcelona’s new No.5 and takes the shirt with the blessing of retired captain Carles Puyol.
Marca reports that Puyol asked the shirt go to Busquets upon his retirement, the skipper hanging up his boots at the end of the season.
“I’m happy to have the No.5 and honoured that Puyol thought of me to inherit it,” Busquets said.
Puyol made public his support on Twitter, backing Busquets to live up to the example he set in his career.
“I have no doubt the No.5 is in good hands. I’m sure he’ll take care of it,” Puyol wrote.
