Nacho ready for important year

Real Madrid youngster Nacho believes he is on the brink of an important year as he battles for a place in the team.

Nacho is on tour with Madrid in the United States and AS reports an interview the defender has given to the club’s official site in which he speaks of aims for the team and for himself.

“We go into next season with high hopes. We really want to get started and the European Super Cup is soon,” he said.

“It will be a difficult year because the last one was complicated but we want to win because Madrid want to win a lot of trophies.

“The Decima was more than a dream. And I made my debut for the Spain national team, something very important to my career.

“And of course being able to play with my brother at Santiago Bernabeu. For me and my family that was a special day to be marked forever.

“Madrid and I have an excellent relationship. I’m very happy here. My family are Madridistas and I’m very young. I’m trying to live a dream.

“To sign for another six years is a dream fulfilled. Now I want to prove it on the field.

“It will be an important year for me. I have to keep working to play as many games as possible. I am a player of the first team squad and not the cantera.

“I have to fight three of the best centre-backs in the world and I will fight.”

Nacho will be joined by James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos in Madrid’s squad for next year, welcoming both big-money signings.

“They are two great players and fit in the idea of the club and the team,” he continued.

“I have the fortune or misfortune of playing against Kroos in the national team’s lower categories with Germany and he is a spectacular player who has incredible individual quality.

“James had a brilliant World Cup and left us all impressed. Hopefully they can continue to make steps here and win trophies.”
