Messi tax case to go ahead

A case against Lionel Messi for alleged tax evasion will go ahead, reports in Spain have confirmed.

Marca say that the judge considering the request to drop charges against Messi decided there is ‘sufficient evidence’ to continue the involvement of the Barcelona forward.

“[Messi] could have known and consented to the creation and maintenance of a fictitious corporate structure with the sole purpose of avoiding compliance with tax obligations from income generated by exploitation of image rights,” Marca report the judge as finding.

Jorge Messi, the player’s father, is also alleged to be compliant and they face three charges of tax evasion. Both Lionel and Jorge Messi deny any wrongdoing.
