‘Navas & Costa Rica Coach argued’

Costa Rica’s goalkeeping coach at the World Cup has claimed Jorge Pinto wanted to drop Keylor Navas as they didn’t get along.

Gabelo Conejo told the Costa Rican media that Pinto and Navas had a falling out when Navas suffered an injury and Pinto accused the goalkeeper of faking it, AS has reported.

“If he could have removed Keylor from the national team, Pinto would have done,” Conejo said.

“It turned out Keylor had inflamed his Achilles tendon. Such was the resentment he had with Keylor that he was telling him he had to train.

“I had to call Dr. Adrian Gutierrez to explain to him that he couldn’t train and we had to keep the injury quiet.”

Pinto didn’t let it lie, however, Conejo alleges, attempting to embarrass Navas in front of his teammates as the players prepared to pray before their match against England.

“Pinto jumped at the opportunity…‘Don Keylor, are you afraid to play against England since you don’t want to train?’” Conejo claims Pinto said.

“‘Professor Pinto, here the only rookie in this environment is you,’” Navas is said to have replied.

“‘You never played at this level. I play every Sunday against Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, against that calibre of player, which you don’t know.’

“He kept a grudge with Keylor, who asked that he stay out of his room at night, in front of everyone, and respect his space.”

Pinto has left his position as Costa Rica Coach, it was confirmed last week, with Pinto since claiming he didn’t get along with a member of his coaching staff.
