Kaka: I didn’t fail at Madrid

Former Real Madrid forward Kaka has defended his time at Santiago Bernabeu, insisting he didn’t fail in La Liga.

Kaka has just returned to first club Sao Paolo, on loan from new MLS side Orlando City, who he has joined from Milan.

The 32-year-old spent four years with Madrid, moving from Milan for €67m in 2009, briefly a world record until Madrid signed Cristiano Ronaldo shortly after.

“My time at Real Madrid was not a failure,” AS reports Kaka telling Esporte Espectacular.

“I played 120 games, scored 28 goals and played an average of 30 games a season.

“I also won three trophies, the League, Copa del Rey and Supercopa.”

Kaka played a large part of his Madrid career under Jose Mourinho, and paid tribute to the current Chelsea manager.

“He was a person who helped me grow, to be patient, to fight and respect the decisions of the Coach,” Kaka reflected.

“I learned to respect that figure, their decisions and do everything in my power to make him see that I could play.

“It’s what I did in the three years I worked with him. It helped me mature and in that phase I went from a child to an adult. What happened with Mourinho was a time of difficulty.”
