Jose Mourinho has revealed he contacted Cesc Fabregas and sold him on the idea that joining Chelsea was the right move.
Cesc left Barcelona for the Blues just before the start of the World Cup and Mourinho has said he spoke with the Spain international over the phone to convince him to come to Stamford Bridge.
“We needed a midfielder with a different profile and we looked at two or three options, but my team did a fantastic job when we decided to go for Cesc,” AS reports the former Real Madrid Coach as saying.
“What I did was call the player to explain what I wanted from him, waiting for him to believe that the transfer was good for him.
“After that the club did very well. I was hoping the player would return to Barcelona to train with his team as we were closing the transfer, but in the end we were able to sign him during the World Cup.”
Cesc is one of a number of signings Chelsea have made from La Liga and Mourinho has given his thoughts on the arrival of Diego Costa and Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid.
