Agger back on Barca agenda

Barcelona are again considering a move for Liverpool defender Daniel Agger, have previously moved away from the idea.

Sport report that the difficulty in signing Marquinhos from Paris Saint-Germain has led Barca to reconsider the Denmark international, as well as a number of other options.

Ajax’s Daley Blind and Tottenham Hotspur’s Jan Vertonghen are also on the shortlist but Agger is seen as the cheapest option.

His position at Anfield is likely to come under threat once the Reds sign Dejan Lovren from Southampton and with two years on his Liverpool deal, Agger is open to leaving.

It’s suggested he would cost €15m and Barca would exploit the good relationship they established with Liverpool in the deal to sign Luis Suarez.

Sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta is said to see Agger as a player who suits the profile of a Barca centre-back, with Agger keen to play out from the back.

Agger has previously made public his unhappiness at losing his place in the Liverpool side, with Brendan Rodgers at times preferring to pair Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho, Sport note.

Barca’s only concerns regarding the 29-year-old are his injury record and his potentially high wages.
