Inter legend Javier Zanetti has expressed surprise that Real Madrid are considering selling his compatriot Angel Di Maria.
Di Maria has widely been reported as being close to joining Paris Saint-Germain and Zanetti, speaking after Inter and Madrid met in a pre-season friendly, said that if he was in charge, Di Maria would stay at Santiago Bernabeu.
“I wouldn’t part with him because he is a very important player. He demonstrated that in the World Cup,” Zanetti said.
Zanetti also reflected on Madrid’s summer signings, Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez, neither of whom took part in the 1-1 draw between the clubs, Inter winning on penalties.
“Madrid are making a great team with Kroos and James as reinforcements,” Zanetti admitted.
