Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone has welcomed the imminent arrival of Antoine Griezmann at Vicente Calderon.
Griezmann is to leave Real Sociedad to sign for the champions, reports in Spain have claimed, and speaking while on Atletico’s tour of the United States, Simeone confirmed he was pleased with signing the winger.
Simeone did also suggest, however, that the deal wasn’t as close as has been reported.
“He’s a very good player. He has a lot of speed and could give us options in attack,” AS reports Simeone as saying.
“But it’s true that a lot of players have been spoken of as coming and they could make two teams.”
Simeone also gave an update on the progress of his squad’s summer training, adding he is looking forward to having his World Cup players back in the fold.
“It’s been good, especially for the new guys. I hope to have the entire group at my disposal as soon as possible,” he continued.
“But right now I can be very satisfied with the work of these three weeks.”
