‘World Cup was unforgettable’

Referee Carlos Velasco Carballo has reflected on his experience of officiating at the World Cup, describing it as ‘unforgettable’.

Marca reports an interview with Velasco Carballo published on the website of the RFEF in which the Madrid-based official looked back on his involvement in Brazil.

“It was an unforgettable experience, almost better than I could imagine. The whole country is concerned by football and everyone turned around for the championship,” he said.

Velasco Carballo also welcomed the prospect of the introduction of the spray to mark the correct placement of a free-kick and the defensive wall.

“It worked very well. Distances were respected and I think it especially helps the referee to minimize management of the wall. It made things simpler,” he said.
