Jeremy Mathieu believes he is moving to the best club in the world after it was confirmed he is leaving Valencia for Barcelona.
Barca today announced the €20m signing of the 30-year-old on a four-year deal, with the option for a fifth and a €50m release clause.
He was due to travel to South America as part of Valencia’s pre-season preparations but has instead journeyed to Barcelona to join up with his new club.
Mathieu spoke to the official Barcelona website and waxed lyrical about his new employers.
“I’m very proud to come to Barcelona,” he is quoted as saying.
“The club know how I play and I’m just coming to do my very best.
“Barca is the best club in the world, and coming here is a great opportunity for me.”
Mathieu will tomorrow undergo a medical and put pen-to-paper on his Barca deal before he is presented as La Blaugrana’s fourth signing of the summer, following Claudio Bravo, Ivan Rakitic and Luis Suarez.
