Florentino welcomes James to Madrid

Florentino Perez has welcomed James Rodriguez to Real Madrid and says he is putting together a team stronger than last season.

James was last night unveiled at Santiago Bernabeu as a Madrid player with Perez reflecting on the late Alfredo Di Stefano after touching on his plans for the coming campaign.

“Welcome to Santiago Bernabeu. Meeting the dream of La Decima and the Copa del Rey was a great year,” Marca reports Perez as saying at James’ presentation.

“Now we just think how to be a better and stronger team. At Real Madrid, titles are only starting points.

“Alfredo Di Stefano and other Madridistas managed to elevate to legends and myths at this club.

“For that, finding top talent is required. That’s what we learned from Di Stefano, who changed the history of Madrid and football.

“He came in 1953 from Colombia, Millonarios to be precise. It’s something that Madrid don’t forget.

“So it gives me great pleasure to introduce James to our fans.

“Here comes one of those men who seduce you with quality football. That led to an extraordinary Colombia team.

“A player who has been one of the sensations of the World Cup. He’s a brilliant player and his goals confirmed him as one of the greats of the World Cup, winning the Golden Boot and the goal of the competition.

“Today we welcome to Madrid James Rodriguez. You have never hidden your passion for our classic crest and you have always said that Madrid was the team you dreamed of playing for. You even supported us in the Champions League.

“Surely you remember the day you stepped on the Bernabeu pitch and said ‘I want to play here.’

“Today begins the dream of playing for the club that has had Raul, Zinidine Zidane, Cristiano and other great players.”
