Deulofeu ‘eager’ for new season

Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu is excited for the new season under Luis Enrique, having impressed in the club’s first friendly.

Deulofeu created the only goal of the game in the win over Recreativo Huelva and has spoken to AS about the coming campaign and his return to Camp Nou after a year on loan at Everton.

“Although I only played 45 minutes, the Coach decided that everyone should play, I felt perfect,” Deulofeu said.

“I was very relaxed, and I like playing with the freedom to act as I always have. I’m very happy.

“It’s simple: I’m eager. I trust myself and I welcome the challenge. I was eager to come back to Barca after my move to Everton. That’s obvious. I know what I have to do.”

Deulofeu was asked how training has thus far gone under Luis Enrique, the Coach having led a week’s worth of sessions.

“Very well. The important thing is that we are preparing each day with enthusiasm and the feelings are better in every way,” he replied.

“I’ve detected the hunger in training. All players know what we’re here to do and together we will fight to achieve our objectives, which is important.”

Asked about Enrique’s tactics, Deulofeu explained that the Coach gives the wingers freedom and he hopes to exploit it.

“We can be on one side or another. Little by little we’re picking up the orders automatically,” he said.

“It’s true there were changes but I feel pretty good on either side. We’re doing interesting things and more players are returning so gradually we’re adding to the team.

“We have a few more weeks to get ready and we’ll be even more clear on situations.”
