Xabi Alonso and Diego Simeone have received one-match bans from UEFA for their behaviour in the Champions League final.
Alonso has been sanctioned for running onto the field to celebrate Gareth Bale’s goal in extra time of the win over Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will be without the midfielder for the European Super Cup against Sevilla next month.
Madrid have been fined €18,000 for improper conduct of the team after they received more than five yellow cards in the match. Los Blancos have also been punished for the misconduct of a section of their supporters but could appeal.
Simeone has been banned for one game and fined €21,000 after he marched onto the pitch to remonstrate with referee Bjorn Kuipers and also tried to confront Raphael Varane.
Cholo will miss Atletico’s first group game in the coming season’s competition.
