Navas closer to Madrid move

Keylor Navas is getting closer to moving from Levante to Real Madrid, although the transfer isn’t yet concluded.

Marca reports that the Costa Rica goalkeeper will substantially increase his wage once he signs in at Santiago Bernabeu, going from €250,000 a year to €2.5m.

Levante have indicated they won’t make Madrid go to the League to trigger Navas’ release clause which, with the attendant taxes, would cost Los Blancos around €18m.

Instead, Levante will accept a €10m offer and the transfer could be completed within a matter of days.

Navas will compete with Iker Casillas for the starting spot as Diego Lopez is said to be on his way out of the club, while Casillas’ shaky World Cup – and Navas’ excellent tournament – could see the new man usurp the captain.

Bayern Munich wanted Navas as well but he is said to feel he is more likely to play in Madrid as World Cup winner Manuel Neuer is unlikely to be dislodged under Pep Guardiola.

Navas stands to receive €2m of the €10m transfer fee, as per the terms of his Levante contract.
