Kroos: No Pep problem

Toni Kroos has insisted he isn’t leaving Bayern Munich for Real Madrid because of a problem with Pep Guardiola.

Kroos was yesterday confirmed as a Madrid player and said at his first Press conference that he felt he was joining a bigger club.

But he also stressed that he got along just fine with Guardiola, and nor did he leave Bavaria because they were beaten by Madrid in the Champions League final.

“The decision was independent. The answer is very simple: The reason I want to play here is Real Madrid,” Marca reports the Germany World Cup winner as saying.

“I had no problem with Guardiola. His style of playing came to me very well. My decision has nothing to do with the Coach.

“I was a Bayern player and my role was to go through to the next round [of the Champions League] and I couldn’t do that. But my decision has nothing to do with the Champions League.”

Kroos added that he sees himself as a central midfielder but won’t complain if Carlo Ancelotti fields him elsewhere.

“In recent years I’ve played in every position on the field and I think I’ll play in the centre of midfield but it’s not up to me,” he continued.

“I feel good in all positions on the field. As a player what I like is to be in the centre. Controlling the team is what I like.”

It was suggested that Xabi Alonso’s suspension from the European Super Cup could give Kroos the chance to make the midfield playmaker’s berth his own, but he suggested he won’t be fully fit by then.

“I heard he won’t play. If I get to play or not, we’ll see,” he replied.

“I start training on August 5. We’ll see how it’s gone a week later [the match is on August 12]. It’s hard to say how I’ll be.”
