Kroos: Madrid a step above Bayern

Toni Kroos believes he has made a leap forward in joining Real Madrid from Bayern Munich, revealing he decided to join Los Blancos a long time ago.

Kroos was yesterday confirmed as a Madrid player, signing a six-year contract after leaving Bayern, and told his first Press conference that once he decided to quit the Bavarians, he had one destination in mind.

“From the beginning when it was clear I would leave Munich I wanted to come to Madrid,” Marca reports the Germany World Cup Winner as saying.

“There were no other options. Going to Madrid was my number one choice. It’s a step above Bayern.

“Madrid have worked hard to get me and all went well. I’m happy about that.

“When I first started at Bayern there was only one option, to win trophies. Now I’ve come here I’ve seen it’s the same. We have to win trophies.

“I know I’m at a very successful club and I will do everything possible for this to continue. It’s a great challenge for me, to win trophies with this team. The goal is to win all competitions.”

Kroos added that though his future was publically up in the air over the summer, he knew where his next destination was.

“I can’t say the exact date. Contact was a long time ago. It was before the World Cup and that was the important thing,” he continued.

“I knew of the interest of Madrid and I was interested in it. I told [Germany Coach] Joachim Low in Brazil because he had a right to know. He congratulated me and told me Madrid is a team of the highest level.

“I was at Bayern for a long time and won everything. I had a great time in Munich. It’s good for me to take another step and it’s with Real Madrid.”
