Valencia: Mathieu price is set

Valencia President Amadeo Salvo has reiterated the club’s position regarding Barcelona’s pursuit of captain Jeremy Mathieu.

AS reports Salvo as saying that Valencia won’t consider offers below Mathieu’s €20m release clause and nor will they accept cash-plus-player approaches.

Salvo suggested he was sympathetic to Mathieu’s desire to move to Camp Nou but stressed he has to do what is best for his club.

“Barcelona are far from the figure for Mathieu,” Salvo said.

“We understand all parties but my responsibility is to Valencia and he has a price.

“Although, we won’t make Barca and the player deposit anything with the LFP.”

But the President did say that if Mathieu doesn’t get to move to Barca, Valencia will look at renegotiating his contract to try and keep the skipper happy.

Salvo also hinted that a move for Benfica’s Rodrigo is close to completion, the forward likely to join next week.
