‘James at Madrid? No problem’

James Rodriguez has been backed to succeed should he move to Real Madrid by former Colombia international Oscar Cordoba.

The Monaco forward has been linked with a switch to Santiago Bernabeu after impressing for his country at the World Cup and Cordoba, who represented Colombia at World Cup 1994 before turning to commentary, believes James would thrive in La Liga.

“I see him at Real Madrid without any problem,” Cordoba told AS.

“He’s 22, with a lot of maturity, intelligence, isn’t wayward and that will allow him to grow so much.”

Colombia reached the quarter-finals of the tournament and won plenty of praise along the way before they were eliminated by hosts Brazil.

Cordoba confirmed that the country was delighted with the team’s performances, particularly James.

“We left very happy. Their participation was spectacular,” Cordoba added.

“We would have liked it if they had reached the final, of course. But expectations in relation to other previous World Cups were met without problems.

“We had a solid first round. We also leave with James as one of the leading figures of the World Cup, battling for the Golden Boot.”
