‘Brazil have to get third place’

Former Brazil, Barcelona and Real Madrid forward Ronaldo says his countrymen have to claim third place at the World Cup.

Brazil were routed 7-1 last night by Germany and Ronaldo, who was surpassed by Miroslav Klose as the tournament’s highest-ever goal scorer in the process, said it is the supporters he feels most sorry for.

“The team pays a heavy price for their mistakes and now has an obligation to Brazil to get third place,” AS reports Ronaldo as saying.

“The fans are the ones who suffer most with the frustration and the national team has to find a better result.”

Klose netted Germany’s second goal, his 16th, one more than 2002 World Cup winner Ronaldo.
