Oblak & Gaitan to Atletico?

Atletico Madrid hope to complete a double swoop from Benfica, signing goalkeeper Jan Oblak and winger Nico Gaitan.

Mundo Deportivo reports that the pair could arrive in time to join in with the early days of pre-season training, with the Atleti squad today back under the command of Diego Simeone.

Oblak is considered a slightly younger version of Thibaut Courtois and the deal for his signature could see Joshua Guilavogui move in the opposite direction.

Atletico don’t want to meet Oblak’s €20m release clause and the signing will likely be financed by use of an investment fund, as the champions are preserving their transfer kitty to sign a striker, such as Mario Mandzukic.

Romelu Lukaku and Rodrigo – another Benfica player – are also candidates to replace Diego Costa and David Villa, who have both left Vicente Calderon.

Lukaku has however suggested he could stay at Everton for another year after spending last season on loan at Goodison Park from Chelsea.

The Gaitan signing would again by funded by investors as Benfica look for a minimum €25m. The Argentine would replace Cristian Rodriguez, who wants to leave.
