Negredo ‘will take pay cut for Atleti’

Alvaro Negredo wants to leave Manchester City for Atletico Madrid and is willing to take a pay cut to help the move go through.

AS claims that the striker has asked to leave City and in an effort to show Atletico how keen he is to join the champions, will accept a contract worth less than the €4.5m he gets from the Premier League champions.

Atletico are thought to have made a €20m offer for the former Sevilla forward, but City had been holding out for €30m. Bayern Munich’s Mario Mandzukic has been identified as the alternative if a deal can’t be done.

Mandzukic would leave Germany for an €18m fee and €4m a year in wages, with the deal far easier to conclude that that for Negredo.

But Coach Diego Simeone still feels Atletico could get Negredo, although is understood to have acknowledged that it would be more complicated than the move for Mandzukic.

It’s thought Atletico will complete the transfer that they feel is best for the club and a decision could be made as soon as Monday.
