Navas proud of Costa Rica

Keylor Navas has spoken of his pride at Costa Rica’s World Cup after the Central Americans were eliminated at the quarter-final stage.

Costa Rica were bested on penalties by the Netherlands after a goalless draw. The Levante goalkeeper admitted that the result was hard to take but didn’t diminish the meaning of Los Ticos’ run in the tournament.

“It leaves a bad taste. I don’t know. I’m going through many things in my head,” he said, according to AS.

“I’ve given everything and it’s hard to lose, but it’s not like we lost any match, we lost on penalties and that means a lot to this team.

“We thank God that this World Cup has been an experience. It’s hard but that’s life.

“We said the same [about penalties] as we did last time [when Costa Rica beat Greece in the same manner].

“They got what they needed and we have to go home. But we’re proud.

“You try not to miss any shots. But we leave with our heads held high.”
