Angel Di Maria has been ruled out of Argentina’s World Cup semi-final against the Netherlands after tearing a muscle in the win over Belgium.
Marca reports that the Real Madrid midfielder suffered the injury when shooting in the first half, having sprinted on to a Lionel Messi through ball, beating Vincent Kompany in a foot race, only to have his attempt on goal blocked by the captain.
Di Maria pulled up immediately after the shot and had to be replaced by Enzo Perez, with ice applied to the injury while Di Maria was sitting on the bench.
It’s not thought that Di Maria will recover in time if Argentina progress to the final, where they could play either Germany or hosts Brazil.
