A late header from Paul Pogba and an own goal from Joseph Yobo secured Les Bleus’ passage into the last eight.
And the Real Sociedad winger singled out the Real Madrid striker for special commendation after the game.
“We are all happy to be through to the next round. Now we’re going to rest and start thinking about the quarter-finals,” he told reporters.
“Karim is more used to playing through the centre but he is capable of creating danger wherever he plays – through the middle or out wide.
“We put in a good game but we can still improve, and we hope to do that in our next game.
“I’ve said many times that however many minutes I get, I will try to make the most of them.”
