Cristiano Ronaldo was like ‘a diamond ring we never had’ at this summer’s World Cup, according to one ex-Coach.
Manuel Jose, who has taken the reins at clubs like Sporting Lisbon and Benfica, has hit out at the Real Madrid superstar for his statements at the tournament.
The Ballon d’Or winner had said before their last game of the competition against Ghana that Portugal were ‘average’.
And the tactician has claimed that Ronaldo never really trusted his teammates in Brazil.
“He is a fantastic player but every time he speaks he comes out with a blunder,” he told reporters.
“He ended up saying that he never believed in the team. If he does not believe in the team, then he doesn’t believe in his team-mates.
“Portugal have been carrying the ‘world’s best’ like a diamond ring that we never had. The other players were treated like subordinates. Completely.”
